Being a mom has given me more time to dedicate to life outside of work, it’s helped me to slow down and expand. I have less time in the studio, but when I’m in there it’s more intentional. I still look for and notice inspiration all around, taking mental notes and lots of pics of things I want to paint when the time comes. That’s exactly what brought this collection to life. It was inspired by walks with Henry to school, noticing the morning sun casting palm tree shadows along the houses. I thought it was so pretty, seeing palm trees without actually looking at them. Their hazy shadows swaying across the colorful island style houses. Mixed with tropical flora, and of course mountains and rainbows. My houses are wonky, the perspectives are off, the size of things in relation to each other is not at all accurate. I never knew I could have so much fun painting everyday things like rock walls, fire hydrants and mailboxes. Part of being a creative is trusting the process and letting yourself create without judgement, going with what your mind and hands want to create. It’s always a little scary putting a new style of work out there, but I really loved working on these and trying something different, and I hope you love them too.
