Where The Heart is was inspired by a picture I took one evening at the end of my driveway. The sun sets behind the mountains across from our house, and it usually creates an alpenglow (another new word I learned from this collection, it's the optical phenomenon that occurs when the sun is setting or rising behind a mountain, the shadow cast by the mountain can create a distinct line). It's always beautiful to watch the sunset from the vantage point of our house, but this day in particular was especially stunning. The sky was cloudy and the sun was creating such a pretty contrast by lighting up the bottom of the clouds, while the tops were starting to turn blue and purple with the night sky. The pinks from the bougainvillea were lit up and looked so vibrant against the green grass. This was one of the hardest paintings I've ever tried to create. I hope you can feel the warm Hawaii breeze coming through while looking at it.
